Ammoniacal Copper Quats (ACQ, Ammoniacal Copper Quats)
ACQ is A wood protectant developed by American CSI Company. It has been approved by the American environmental protection Department and has been standardized and listed in the A standard. It is mainly produced in Canada, the United States and other countries and has been put into commercial application as a new generation of wood protectant.
According to standard A, there are three types of ACQ, namely ACQ-A, ACQ-B and ACQ-D. Among them, ACQ-A and ACQ-B were included in Standard A P5 in 1992, and ACQ-D was included in Standard A P5 in 1995. The only difference between type A and type B is the ratio of copper to quaternary ammonium salt. In type D, there is no volatilization of ammonia gas, which improves the operating conditions, reduces the cost, and the treatment material does not change color.
Commodity ACQ stock solution is dark blue. When anticorrosive treatment is carried out, the preservative will have irritating gas volatilization. ACQ has good permeability and is very effective for large size wood treatment. When the retention amount reached 7.0kg/m3 (in copper), 5a was only slightly decayed by field experiment, while the control group 3a was completely decayed without any treatment. In addition, ACQ can also be used in the treatment of railway ties, the effect is very good. Because ACQ has volatile gases during processing, operators need protective gear.
ACQ has the following advantages:
1) It has good anti-mildew, anti-corrosion and anti-insect performance;
2) Has good permeability to wood, can be used to deal with large size, difficult to deal with wood and wood products;
3) Anti-loss, with long-term performance;
4) Low toxicity does not contain arsenic, chromium, phenol and other harmful substances to humans and animals. ACQ has become a new generation of wood protection agent to replace CCA, which is widely used around the world, and has been put into use in the United States, Japan and Southeast Asia. At present, there is no domestic research and application, some schools and research institutions have started the laboratory development.
